As an undergrad at Buffalo State College Lindsey Taylor programmed events on campus and then at local venues. He dreamed of creating an event that “was a destination, a reason to come to Buffalo. I wanted it to be public, inclusive, and celebrating more than one genre of music. My goal is to build bridges through two main things – athletics and the arts. When people come together in those platforms no one cares who voted for who that day.”
Taylor’s dream is now a reality. He’s the founder of the Beau Fleuve Music & Arts Celebration, a weekend long event held at the Central Terminal that celebrates “Buffalo’s past and continued resurgence of the arts.” It features performances by bands and writers, a vendor village, food trucks, a comedy show, charity softball game, and a silent disco.
“At Beau Fleuve you’ll see more diversity – everyone enjoying themselves,” Taylor said. “We keep it to 2,000 people so there is plenty of space and everyone feels comfortable. It has a Sunday chill energy.”
Taylor explained his longtime connection to and admiration for Central Terminal: “I grew up near William Street, so we spent much time going up and down that street, always seeing the iconic tower of Central Terminal.” Taylor mentions finding a family photo his mom made in the ‘90s of Curtiss Street and the Terminal tower, something he sees as prophetic.
While the Music & Arts Celebrations takes place on one weekend every summer, Taylor and his team are running workshops and after-school programs year-round, committed to building bridges through creative community give backs.
