Buffalo and Cincinnati Breweries Go Head-to-Head

Two craft breweries are battling it out in advance of Sunday’s upcoming Bills game. Community Beer Works (CBW) of Buffalo and Rhinegeist Brewery of Cincinnati have placed a friendly wager, which will see the losing brewery dole out a $1000 donation to the winning brewery’s charity of choice. That means that when the Bills win, Rhinegeist will have to pay up.

You have to love these types of bets, especially between two teams/cities that recently bonded over Damar Hamlin’s frightening cardiac arrest on the Bengals’ field.

“The craft beer industry is a tight-knit space that fosters cross-city partnerships. This fun rivalry is an engaging way to channel our cities’ football team spirit into charitable goodwill. We hope Rhinegeist is feeling extra philanthropic this weekend! ” said Community Beer Works Co-Founder Chris Smith. “Good luck to our friends at Rhinegeist Brewery and all of Cincinnati — and most importantly, let’s go Buffalo!”

As for the select charities:

CBW selected Damar Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation Charitable Fund — an organization dedicated to supporting toy drives, back-to-school drives, kids camps, and more youth-focused initiatives.

Rhinegeist Brewery selected the Joe Burrow Foundation in recognition of their work helping children with mental illness and those experiencing food insecurity.

At the end of the day (the game), it’s important to remember the incredible work that these charitable organizations do, and that everyone’s a winner when it comes to demonstrating widespread community support for these causes.

That said, the pot sweetens…

In advance of the match-up, the breweries sent along care packages to one another, including hometown swag such as t-shirts, scarves, and hats. Oh, and the losing brewery must wear the opposing city’s hometown apparel for a full week following the game. Now that sounds like the real raw end of the deal. It will be interesting to see the crew at Rhinegeist all gussied up in Buffalo attire.

It turns out that Cincinnati chose Buffalo for this year’s matchup because of the cities’ mutual camaraderie and various extended ties. To that end, three of Rhinegeist Brewery’s employees who hail from Buffalo all picked CBW as the Buffalo brewery to challenge.

Let the game begin!
