Buffalo’s outdoor pools to open July 1, splash pad hours to extend

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Five of Buffalo’s outdoor pools will open for summer on July 1.

Centennial Outdoor Pool

Houghton Outdoor Pool

JFK Outdoor Pool

Kensington Outdoor Pool

Riverside Outdoor Pool

This comes after Buffalo, like other U.S. cities, faced a lifeguard shortage in recent years following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very excited that more pools are opening, thanks to city youth who trained to
be city lifeguards this season,” Mayor Byron Brown said.

The city noted that two indoor pools — the Cazenovia-Connors, Kait, Harrity Memorial Pool and Lovejoy Pool, are open weekdays year-round.

Along with that, the City of Buffalo announced that its 10 splash pads will have extended hours once the school year ends. On June 25, they’ll be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Labor Day.

See the splash pad locations here:

Ralph Wilson Park – foot of Porter Ave.

Allison Park – Reese St., adjacent to Asarese-Matters Community Center

MLK Jr. Park Basin – Best St. and Fillmore Ave.

Lanigan Park – South Park Ave., west of Louisiana St.
