Habitat for Humanity Buffalo hits three more “home” runs.

Habitat for Humanity Buffalo (HfHB) has struck again. This time, the result is three new houses with three new homeowners. The three dwellings, located at 29 Minton St., 95 Pinehurst Ave., and 83 Pinehurst Ave., were made possible thanks to the families that will ultimately call the houses “home,” along with support from the community, and contributions from partners Marrano Homes and Tim George.

Habitat for Humanity Buffalo creates homeownership opportunities for low-income families in the City of Buffalo by subsidizing the cost of homes through donations and volunteer labor.

“These events demonstrate the strength and resilience of our community,” said Christopher Kennedy, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Buffalo. “Having three house dedications in one day is an incredible milestone and highlights the importance of ramping up our efforts during this time of housing insecurity. Seeing the joy and relief on the faces of the new homeowners as they receive their keys is the most rewarding part of our work. It’s a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.”

The H4HB program requires low-income families to work towards homeownership by contributing a certain amount of labor, which ultimately provides them with sufficient knowledge to maintain the properties. Ultimately, the cost of the homes are subsidized by donations and volunteer labor, which makes them affordable for families that might not otherwise consider homeownership.

Families who purchase homes through the program are required to contribute at least 400 hours of “sweat equity,” working alongside community volunteers to construct their homes and the houses of other families in the program.

Once approved, families purchase their homes from Habitat Buffalo by paying a low-interest, affordable monthly mortgage.

“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Buffalo is one of the cornerstones of our community engagement efforts,” said President of Marrano Homes, Patrick Marrano, whose business played a crucial role in the construction of the homes on Pinehurst Avenue. “We are honored to contribute to such meaningful projects, knowing that our efforts help families achieve the dream of homeownership and create lasting stability in their lives.”

“These dedications are a testament to the momentum Habitat Buffalo is building as we tackle the housing crisis head-on,” said Kennedy. “We invite everyone to join us in this fight by volunteering and donating, so more families in need can achieve the dream of homeownership and find stability in their lives.”
