Mural Alert: Beau Stanton in Allentown

Allentown is getting even more colorful, thanks to a new mural by artist Beau Stanton (American, born 1985). His latest work – title to be announced – can be found near the corner of Allen and Delaware, on the side of the building that houses Colter Bay (viewable from Delaware).

As with most of his murals, Stanton has chosen to feature imagery that is site specific to Buffalo, including the iconic stained glass sunburst that resides in the illuminated chambers of the Common Council. The figure of the woman appears to be from one of the statues that is part of the Caryatid porch, carved by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The flowering element could be a variety of clematis – a climbing vine.

This particular mural – sponsored by The Buffalo AKG Art Museum – can now be seen by anyone that is heading south on Delaware Avenue, as they approach Allen Street.

Additional information can be found here. The Public Art Initiative is supported by the County of Erie and the City of Buffalo.
