The longest and largest annual Canadian battle reenactment is taking place right on our doorstep this weekend. The Annual Siege of Old Fort Erie Reenactment features countless reenactors who come together each year to properly demonstrate the War of 1812 battle that took place along the Niagara River.
With period accurate uniforms, an authentic military encampment, pyrotechnics, and an incredibly preserved fort, there’s a ton of fun to be had, while learning some interesting facts about our region along the way. Alas, the site of the infamous battle is known as the country’s bloodiest battlefield.
“The annual siege weekend is packed with activities for all ages, including the Mini Militia Kids Experience, historic weapons demonstrations and live skirmishes. Visitors are welcome to explore the Fort and military camps, including Merchant’s Row—where they can browse the wares of merchants and sutlers (those allowed to follow and supply the army) dressed in period costume, carrying on business as it was done during the 1800s.” – Niagara Parks
