The running season is upon us. In WNY, there are plenty of races to consider, for plenty of reasons. Some choose running races for the challenges, or the scenic views, or for health reasons, or to support a good cause. In the case of the annual Grassroots Gardens Spring 5K/10K/15K, runners can cross off all the above.
Not only do these waterfront runs feature some of the best scenic views in the region (along the upper Niagara River), they result in beneficial results for Grassroots Gardens, a non-profit organization that has helped to transform this region’s reclaimed “green” neighborhood landscapes.
The 15K course, from LaSalle Waterfront Park to Goat Island and Niagara Falls, is USATF-certified.
“Please join us on Saturday May 18, 2024 at 3pm for the 7th Annual Grassroots Gardens Spring 5K, 10K, and15K races! The event is being brought to you by iRunWNY and LaSalle Vineyard & Community Garden to raise funds and awareness for WNY Grassroots Gardens. All three distances being offered feature beautiful and scenic views of the upper Niagara River. This year’s run features a new medal design for finishers and a special keepsake gift for participants.
Runners are invited to visit nearby LaSalle Vineyard & Community Garden after the race to plant a vegetable seedling in the garden, as a commemorative connection to the space and for visitors to enjoy throughout the 2024 growing season.
