Applications now open for annual 43North startup competition

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Those looking for a boost to their startup business or endeavor can now apply for 43North’s annual startup competition.

The state-funded accelerator seeks to attract entrepreneurs who will grow their startups in Buffalo. The five winners of the competition will receive a $1 million investment, get the opportunity to join 43North’s program and secure office space at Seneca One Tower.

“The 43North accelerator program has been a collaboration amongst government agencies and the broader business community that has not only attracted – but retained – entrepreneurs from across the world, creating a proven economic model,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a release. “The fact that this year marks the ten-year anniversary of this operating model shows just how successful this incubator program has been in bolstering jobs, community, and exceptional economic rebirth into our Western New York region.”

The competition is taking applications through June 7, and the selection process culminates with a live pitch event on Oct. 10 at Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

“43North has provided such invaluable opportunity and support to us with our expansion to America,” said Alborz Bozorgi, the CEO of Twipes, a startup that expanded to Buffalo from London after winning the 43North competition in 2022. “I highly encourage anyone with a startup to apply for this program. Because of the capital we’ve received through 43North, we’re now looking to establish production right here in the beautiful city of Buffalo.”
