Buffalo man pleads guilty to manslaughter following attack on estranged wife

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday following an attack on his estranged wife and her parents, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

On the morning of Oct. 24, 2021, 41-year-old Mohammed Mia violated an order of protection by entering the home of his estranged wife in Buffalo. He then choked, punched, slapped and threatened her. When her parents tried to intervene, he threw her father to the ground and punched him repeatedly.

The victim called 911 and her father was transported to ECMC for severe head trauma. Her and her mother suffered cuts, bruises and broken teeth. Her father, 47-year-old Mohammed Hossain, died three days later.

Mia faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 26. He remains held without bail.
