Commemorating 50th anniversary of hip hop culture at Fits Books, with Crime 129/Blen 167, and Vibe Garden

Over the course of the next couple of days, Fitz Books will play host to a graffiti exhibition by Crime on Friday, and then Vibe Garden (learn more) will set up shop on Saturday. In preparation for the events, Vinny Alejandro (Crime 129) painted a graffiti piece on the patio wall of Fitz Books, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of hip hop culture, while recognizing Buffalo’s own hip hop community.

Here’s the program:

May 17: Graffiti Exhibition by Crime 129 & Blen 167 with DJ Optimus Prime

5-8pm, Fitz Books & Waffles, free/no cover & open to all ages

An exhibition of work from two graffiti legends Crime 129, Vinny Alejandro of Urban Inspirations, and Blen 167, from NYC, founder of the Puerto Rico chapter of Zulu Nation. DJ Optimus Prime, premier Buffalo turntablist whose scratches were featured on the track Raw. on Conway the Machine’s new album, will be providing music for the evening. 

May 18: Vibe Garden ft. DJ Optimus Prime, DJ Lisa Lux, DJ ha-MEEN, emcee Edo Langston & singer Corrine Renee

8pm-Midnight, Fitz Books & Waffles, outdoors on the patio, $20 presale tickets on Eventbrite, 21+

It’s a party for the community – step into the garden to enjoy DJs, emcees, singers, live graffiti, dancing and more.
