Dunkirk man accused of stealing, selling fuel for $90K

SHERIDAN, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 50-year-old Dunkirk man has been charged with second-degree grand larceny after authorities say he took gasoline from a local business and sold it himself.

Matthew Weaver turned himself in to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office. They say the gas and diesel fuel he had been taking came from a business in the Town of Sheridan, and that he had been taking it since October 2023.

The investigation into the stolen fuel began late last month. In all, they say Weaver made $90,000 from selling it.

He will answer the charge in Town of Sheridan Court.
