Exploring a World of Chocolates in WNY for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is not only a day for lovers, it’s a day for chocolate aficionados. I’m not talking about the name brand chocolates that line the aisles at supermarkets. I’m talking about the specialty chocolates that are produced by local chocolatiers.

As a way to pay tribute to these hometown chocolatiers and confectioners, Visit Buffalo Niagara (VBN) spotlighted some of the hometown heroes that continue to produce our favorite artisan candy selections.

The interesting thing about all of this, is the ever-changing chocolate landscape that continues to evolve in WNY. For example, Choco Logo recently underwent a name change to Littles Chocolate Company, and is now conducting occasional pop-ups at its (relatively) new business location at the former Parkside Candies shop (2304 Main Street). The historic candy shop that was featured in the Robert Redford film, The Natural, is open to the public this weekend. So be sure to stop in for a trip down memory lane and online order pickup. The hope is that – at some point – owner Bob Little might open up the shop for good. Little moved his business into the iconic candy shop two years ago, as a homebase for his operation.

“It’s amazing that it’s still there,” said Little who gave up a corporate law practice to buy the former Choco-Logo business known for its signature salted chocolate turtles.  “We’ve been getting a pretty great reaction. A lot of people who were fans of Choco Logo have found us.” Customers can order $10 Valentine boxes of chocolate bark embedded with pretzels, cashews, toffee, sponge candy, and pink buffalos, according to VBN.

In other chocolate-laden news, Blue Table Chocolates recently relocated from the Five Points neighborhood to Larkinville (you can still find them at French Girl, however).

Available at Blue Table Chocolates for Valentine’s Day weekend are:

A collection of anti-Valentine truffles, designed to appeal to the cynic with the black-tea crème brulee flavor and red peppercorn cherry.

For the romantic, consider, a black forest-style cherry marshmallow truffle.

“We’re always looking to find new first bites: You’ve never tried this before and you’re not going to find it somewhere else,” said Ben, whose new digs are incredibly impressive.”If you don’t want to send too strong of a message, just say everything.”
