Fire at Lockport chemical company causes damage

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A fire at a chemical company in Lockport caused damage on Monday night, according to the Lockport Fire Department.

Crews responded to VanDeMark Chemical, located on North Transit Road, around 7:50 p.m. Monday.

Flames were visible from the upper exterior on the west side of the building, on a pipe chase assembly. It was determined that “a wrapped stainless steel pipe overheated and caused the outer covering of the pipe to ignite where it exits the building’s exterior wall.”

Crews put out the fire after around 90 minutes. There were no injuries, while the property damage is estimated at $8,000. They were unable to value content loss “due to specialized nature.”

The fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to be accidental.
