Honk if you love The Hippomobile

Have you ever heard the expression, it’s hippo to be cool? No? Well, that’s because you haven’t paid a visit to The Buffalo Transportation / Pierce-Arrow Museum, where one of their newest ‘on-display’ eccentric cars is the one-of-a-kind Hippomobile. Yes, this whacky ride, made by American postwar, contemporary artist Albert Guibara (California – born in 1944) is now viewable at the museum, just in time for Father’s Day.

According to the Museum, the 600 pound Hippomobile was built on the chassis of a 1971 Ford Mustang convertible, and can reach speeds of 100 MPH (thanks to its 70 hippopower).

Bring Dad and family to see a one-of-a-kind beast, built on the chassis of a 1971 Ford Mustang convertible. A copper and brass work of art weighing 600 pounds, the Hippomobile is capable of speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The driveable Hippomobile has:

Headlights hidden in the hippo’s chubby cheeks

A wagging tail

Hippo motif steering wheel

A cattle egret rear view mirror who has hopped along for the ride

An 8 track stereo the once played “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”

The Hippomobile will be the star attraction over Father’s Day Weekend, along with all of the superstar dads that pay a visit of course. And even if the Hippomobile is more of an oddity attraction – and not taken very seriously by genuine car enthusiasts – it’s going to be a real spectacle for kids in tow, as the dads seek out their all time favorite cars, including some of these Pierce-Arrow Company (Buffalo, NY) autos:

1901 Pierce Motorette

1903 Pierce Stanhope Motorette

1904 The Great Arrow

1904 Arrow Rear Entry Tonneau

1918 Pierce-Arrow 7 Passenger Touring

1918 Pierce-Arrow Town Car

1919 Pierce-Arrow Town Car

1931 Pierce-Arrow 7 Passenger Touring

1931 Pierce-Arrow Model 43 Roadster

1933 Pierce-Arrow Model 1242

1936 Pierce-Arrow 1601 Metropolitan Town Car

The Hippomobile is just one of the countless fascinating cars showcased at the Museum. Others include sportscars, exotics, classics, antiques, muscle cars, and just about anything else that you can imagine. Not to mention endless amounts of other transportation related ephemera such as classic bicycles, and historic automobilia.
