Ladies First celebrates Buffalo’s Women of Hip-Hop

Schondra Aytch

On Saturday, April 23rd from 7- 9 PM at Torn Space Theater, the women driving Buffalo’s thriving hip-hop scene will take center stage.  Curated by Schondra Aytch, the event is being presented by UB Arts Collaboratory, Sneakvibing, and Torn Space Theater with support provided by Just Buffalo Literary Center and the Civil Writes Project Support Award.

For too long, women have been overlooked in the world of hip-hop and the arts in general.

“Ladies First’ showcases some of the dynamic women changing that narrative, making things happen both musically and in their communities

The performers read like a “Who’s Who” of Buffalo hip-hop including DJ Lil Gab, Stacy & Friends, ft. DJ Lisa Lux, DJ Brei, and A.I. The Anomaly.

The UB Arts Collaboratory has been making a concerted effort to shine the light on musicians, beginning with the residency of Michael Mwenso in 2020, Grandmaster Flash this past fall, and now with Schondra Aytch, a Buffalo-based culture writer, blogger and connoisseur of all things hip-hop.  Together with the Collaboratory in the newly renovated Torn Space Theater, Schondra has gathered a who’s who of women who have given so much to the music scene but have not been given their due!
