BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara Falls man was arrested for allegedly driving while impaired by drugs with a one-year-old and an eight-month-old infant in the vehicle on Sunday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to officials, at 4 p.m., 20-year-old Mekhi Miller allegedly made multiple abrupt lane changes and failed to signal. During a traffic stop, the deputy observed signs of drug impairment from Miller.
Both the one-year-old and eight-month-old were allegedly in improper child restraints, the sheriff’s office said.
Further investigation revealed that Miller was allegedly driving while impaired by drugs, where he was then evaluated by a drug recognition expert, officials said.
The children were turned over to a family member.
Miller was remanded to the Niagara County Jail where he will be held for centralized arraignment.
He was charged with the following:
DWI drugs
Aggravated driving while intoxicated
Leandra’s Law
Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child
Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, which include: improper child restraint, improper turn signal, and moving from the lane unsafely
