Police say van hit bus carrying 5 students in Dunkirk

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A bus carrying five BOCES students was hit by a vehicle in Dunkirk Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 8 a.m., police said a van driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the corner of Deer and E. 6th streets. They then proceeded to hit the back of a school bus en route to a BOCES facility, police said.

The students on board were high school age, according to police.

No one was injured. The van driver, 22-year-old Amelia Mateo-Garcia, was given traffic tickets for an improper child restraint, unlicensed operation, failure to stop at a stop sign and driving without insurance, police said.
