Sabres stay on a roll, beat Vegas 7-2

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Sabres have skated into March like a lion. Or perhaps more like a goat-headed beast.

Jeff Skinner opened the scoring onslaught with his 20th goal of the season, Dylan Cozens scored a pair of shorthanded goal, and the Sabres also got goals from Zemgus Girgensons, Kyle Okposo, Owen Power and Casey Mittelstadt to beat the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights 7-2 on Saturday night at KeyBank Center.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 21 saves as Buffalo won for the fifth time in six games to lift their record (29-28-4) above .500 for the first time since early November.

Skinner and Eric Robinson each had two assists, while Power and Mittelstadt added assists to their scoring tallies.

After matching a team record with seven consecutive one-goal margin games, the Sabres had their biggest scoring output since a 7-0 win against the the L.A. Kings — the last time they wore their black-and-red retro sweaters.

Buffalo concludes a back-to-back set Sunday night against Winnipeg.
