Sex offender sentenced for approaching minors in Clarence

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A registered sex offender has been sentenced for approaching juveniles in October 2023 at a Clarence motel and failing to register his address, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

John Dziedzic, 72, was sentenced to 364 days in jail.

On Oct. 9, 2023, Dziedzic approached two minors and offered them marijuana to come to his motel room on the 900 block of Main Street in Clarence. New York State Police at the time said that two teens, ages 16 and 14, did enter the room.

It was found that Dziedzic had failed to register as a sex offender by not updating his address on a form issued by the state.

Police said last October that at the time of the arrest, Dziedzic was on parole for second-degree murder and was on the sex offender registry for a rape and kidnapping arrest in 1976.

He pleaded guilty in April to one count of failure to register and/or verify as a sex offender and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Final orders of protection were issued on behalf of both juvenile victims, which will remain in place for the next five years.
