Amherst police see dozens of thefts from unlocked vehicles in recent weeks

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Amherst police are reminding people to lock their vehicles after seeing a high number of thefts in recent weeks.

The following is a sample of the number of reported larcenies from vehicles in the last four months:

Feb. 4-10: 7

Feb. 11-17: 6

March 17-23: 15

April 7-13: 22

April 21-27: 24

May 19-25: 17

On Wednesday morning, Amherst police said that in the last two weeks, they’ve responded to 46 reports of larcenies from vehicles. Each one was unlocked, they said.

“Criminals are becoming more brazen and have been entering open garages in the daytime to go through vehicles,” police wrote on social media.
