Bills broadcaster John Murphy stepping down from position

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — John Murphy, the play-by-play broadcaster of the Buffalo Bills, announced he is stepping down from his position.

The “Voice of the Buffalo Bills” says he will step away from the play-by-play duties after 35 years of broadcasting on the radio for the Bills. Murphy added he is keeping the door open to be involved in the game day broadcast.

Murphy first took the position after 2003 for Van Miller, but before that, he was an analyst from 1984 through 1989 and from 1994 to 2003. In 2019, he was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

In January 2023, Murphy suffered a stroke and has been recovering from the incident. Chris Brown filled in for Murphy in the 2023 season.
