BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — As warm weather approaches, the City of Buffalo is opening up a summertime favorite for the season.
All of the city’s splash pads will open for the season starting Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and through the rest of the holiday weekend under the same hours, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced.
“We are expecting a beautiful weekend, a warm weekend,” Brown said during a Friday news conference. “So it comes right on time to be able to open our splash pads so children and families can enjoy them.”
The opening of the splash pads adds to a busy weekend in the city, with the Buffalo Marathon and other Memorial Day weekend events also taking place. As a result, Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said additional patrols and details will be out throughout the weekend “to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.”
While splash pads will be open, the city’s pools still have a little ways to go.
Buffalo’s Deputy Commissioner for Parks and Recreation Andrew Rabb said pools are slated to open on July 1, with more likely to be available to the public than last year due to an increase in lifeguards.
