BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Panama in Class D and Frewsburg in Class C claimed girls basketball sectional crowns Saturday at Jamestown Community College.
Frewsburg cruises to Class C title
Frewsburg routed Ellicottville 71-36 to win the Class C championship.
The Bears, who are ranked No. 6 in New York State in Class C, jumped out to a quick start against the Eagles and did not look back. They led by 30 points, 51-21, at halftime and saw out their huge advantage until the final buzzer.
Frewsburg has gotten hot at the right time, winning their three sectional playoff games by an average of 25.7 points.
Next up, the Bears will face either Dundee/Bradford or Bloomfield in the Far West Regionals on March 9 at Finger Lakes Community College.
Panama caps off Cinderella run with sectional title
Panama pulled off the upset to win the Class D championship thanks to a 53-49 overtime victory over Sherman.
The Panthers (9-13) came into Saturday’s contest as the No. 4 seed, fresh off an upset win over top-seeded Clymer on Thursday. Despite their inferior record to Sherman (16-6), they once again proved their place and defended their sectional title from a year ago.
